Obesity, diabetes and other symptoms of "overnutrition" are a growing problem in our world today.

Some Facts

In fact, a majority of the world's population now live in countries where more deaths are cause by overweight and obesity than malnutrition.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that globally, there were 1.5 billion adults 20 years and older who were overweight in 2008, with 500 million of them obese.
  • Overweight and obesity are the fifth leading risk for global deaths
  • In 2010, almost 43 million children under the age of 5 were overweight. (WHO, 2011)
In the U.S., the situation is dire:
  • Approximately two-thirds of adults are overweight, and one-third obese
  • One-third of American children are overweight
  • Health issues related to obesity cost the U.S. economy $168 billion annually (NBER, 2010)
  • $2,800 are added to each American's medical bill as a result of "overnutrition"

What Does TABLE FOR TWO Do?

25 cents of the proceeds from each TFT meal is used to provide school meals in sub-Saharan Africa.
TABLE FOR TWO approaches the obesity epidemic by tying the issue to the global food imbalance. We ask employees at corporations, students at universities, and customers at restaurants to take a minute to think about this global issue and to play a small part in solving it. Our partnering organizations offer a "TFT healthy meal" option within their menu. 25 cents of the proceeds of each TFT meal is used to provide school meals in sub-Saharan Africa. Obesity is not an isolated problem, but rather one extreme of two opposing issues created by the global food system that exists today.
